Cambridge Stringer and Sales Team Member Required

Top Spin Tennis have an exciting opportunity for a new team member to work in our Pro-Shops. Initially, the role will be part-time with approximately 20 hours guaranteed per week. However, it is expected that these hours will increase in the future after full training. Applicants who wish to follow an apprenticeship programme with a local service provider will also be considered.

Top Spin Tennis is a local, family-owned business and is East Anglia’s Largest Racket Sports Specialists with a number of Pro-Shops in Cambridgeshire, Norfolk and Suffolk. We specialise in the supply of tennis, badminton, squash and racketball goods and services. We pride ourselves on our excellent reputation which is based on superior customer service. We are well known for our International Stringing Services – all our team either hold or are working towards their stringing qualifications; the team strung over 7,500 rackets in 2017! Our team work closely together in our extended network and everyone is encouraged to contribute to the development of the business. 

Brief Job Specification 

  • Servicing rackets – stringing, re-gripping, replacing bumpers
  • Retail sales – advising customers on suitable products
  • Taking payments
  • Answering the phone and taking customer orders
  • Ensure shops look neat, tidy and welcoming for customers

Person Specification

 The person we are looking for will ideally have the following qualities:

  • Have an interest in at least one racket sport
  • Be friendly and easy to get on with, and be confident dealing with customers
  • Have a desire to work and contribute to a team and the business
  • Be a great team player – we all support each other
  • Be flexible with working hours and locations
  • Have a good telephone manner
  • Be computer literate
  • Be organised, methodical, and have meticulous attention to detail
  • Be keen to learn about racket sports, the latest products, and services we offer
  • Interested in learning to string at the highest level – you will need to have a practical nature
  • Must be able to work unsupervised after suitable training

 Employment Conditions

Initially, hours are to be agreed but will be approximately 20 hours per week, paid on an hourly basis four weekly in arrears. The hourly rate will be according to age and experience. We offer a Workplace pension scheme.

A probationary period of one month must be successfully completed before a permanent contract is offered.

You will be based at our Hills Road shop in Cambridge and will work various shifts during the week including every Saturday. We are open until 7:30pm Monday to Friday, so some evening work will be required.

Full ‘on-the-job’ training will be provided – you will work alongside our other team members.

Norwich Stringer and Sales Team Member Required

Our opportunity in Norwich is also a part-time role with approximately 10 hours guaranteed per week. However, it is expected that these hours may increase in the future after full training. The job specification is the same as for our Cambridge role above.
